Campagnatico

If you believe in fairy tales you’re welcome.

Try to climb this sweet hill and stare at the horizon just listening: you’ll hear the presence of the men who have been down these roads, who have been exploiting these woods and have been looking at sea as a source of life and freedom, climbing mountains to search for a shelter or to find new ways.

For those who wish for a close up meeting with archeology, moving a few kilometers from Campagnatico you will find the marvels of Roselle (it’s open to visitors from 8 in the morning until dawn) with its impressive city walls, the Etruscan necropolis, the forum and the civil Basilica.
For nature lovers it’s possible to visit the ‘Parco dell’Uccellina’, one of the most suggestive natural oasis in Europe (it only takes 30 minutes to reach it). The park is a protected area where you find the endemic species of Maremma, but also flamingos, and where you can horse ride in a huge pine-forest. For those looking for complete relax there are the Terme del Petriolo, a rare example of a medieval thermal system. Last but not least there’s the sea with the refined worldliness of Castiglione della Pescaia and Punta Ala or with the wide beach of Marina di Grosseto. With an all day trip it is possible to reach Giglio island or stop in the enchanting Orbetello lagune visiting some suggestive sea villages like Talamone.

Excursions

Already from the arrival journey it is possible to have an idea of how this suggestive medieval village is the perfect centre for many excursions (the “Locanda del Glicine” can organize them) which can be artistic, historical-archeological, naturalistic or simply amusing. Campagnatico opens the doors to the Val d’Orcia, so that in only 30 minutes it is possible to reach Montalcino, the home of Brunello, one the greatest wines in the world, or Pienza, a jewel of architecture, or Siena, one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
